Pupuseria?

For years we’ve passed by this place called _____’s Pupuseria and I’ve always chuckled at the name.  It got to the point where my husband banned me from saying it when driving by because my childish humor was driving him crazy.  So today, he calls me from work to say that he and a co-worker were talking about different restaurants in the area, and the co-worker told him that _____’s Pupuseria is one of his favorites!  It is a little hole in the wall El Salvadorian place that sells - what else- pupusas

We had hubby’s dad meet us down there this evening to try it out.  They were GREAT!! For under $7.00 apiece, we got a drink, two pupusas, rice, beans, chips and this cole-slaw type mix called curtido.  It was great to try something new - even Miss Katie loved it.

YUMYUMYUM!  We will be back VERY soon.

One Penny

The Queen Mum will be happy to hear that I spent a penny at CVS yesterday and brought home 4 toothbrushes and a box of Betty Crocker brownie mix. In that purchase I earned about $13 in ECBs as well!

ps… No jokes about me needing 4 toothbrushes after eating the brownies to keep my yuck mouth clean! ;)

The Color Purple

I am about halfway through this book and it is SO good!  I loved the movie and would love to see the play too.   (My mom saw it last summer on Broadway!)

Has anyone else read this? What did you think?

Gripe of the moment

Newsflash!

The large stall at the end of the ladies restroom is NOT, I repeat, NOT for you to go hide and take a crap in.  This stall is intended for the following:

  1. People with handicaps
  2. Moms who need to use the changing table
  3. Moms who need to take all of their kids/stroller into the stall with them.

When there are FIVE or more smaller stalls available, PLEASE use one of them.  You are not invisible, hiding way in the back.  We know you’re there.  You only piss us off for making us wait while we have a toddler who is potty training and is about to pee her pants.

It’s ok to poo in the bathroom… we won’t think less of you.  Everyone poops.

Happy No-Cancer-versary

One year ago today, my husband had a large cancerous tumor along with his left kidney removed.  I am happy to say that we have made it through the year cancer-free!  He goes in every few months for a CAT scan and a visit with the oncologist.  We were so blessed that the surgery was the only treatment he needed.

I pray that we stay healthy and have many years together.

Five months and growing!

Finally some pudge!

My baby boy is 5 months old today!  Do you see those little creases on his thighs!?  LOVE EM!

  • He rolls over all of the time now… it is so fun to watch.
  • I’m looking forward to feeding him baby food.  I’ve tried rice cereal a few times but he wasn’t very impressed with it.
  • He loves his big sister and watches her every move.  Even if it means losing the bottle and getting whiplash as she darts around the room dancing.

I’m so blessed to be able to stay at home and take care of them and watch them grow.  It may mean we have NO money to buy ’things’, but it is sure worth it!

Overheard at dinner…

Katie was being a stinker at dinner.  This is the conversation that followed.

Daddy: Katie, you’re a candidate to go to bed early tonight.
Katie: I’m NOT a CANADA!

Her middle name is Grace

I should have known that would jinx her from the start.  She is always tripping over herself.

Yesterday, she stepped on a pillow and slid onto her butt, falling into the baby’s swing in the process.  Then she gets up, looks sternly at the baby, and says, ‘Watch where you’re going, BABY!’

Stamps for sale!

I have been stamping for almost 10 years now!  Over those years I have collected hundreds of sets of stamps and have cleaned house quite a few times.  At this point I am very motivated to clean out my stamp room so I can start organizing my supplies (and maybe starting a new hobby like sewing?!)  That being said, I am selling many of my stamp sets… if you don’t stamp, but know someone who does, please feel free to pass this on to them.

These are all Stampin’ Up! sets.  Some are retired/discontinued.  Most in great condition with just one or two used stamps.  All are mounted unless otherwise specified.  The number after the name is how many stamps are in the set and the year is the year they came out. NIB is New in Box.

Cranky old people are making my life miserable.

After all the crap we went through last year, we moved back into the suburbs and my mom & stepdad were nice enough to rent us their mobile home.   My husband decided last year that he wanted to build a little trailer for us to go camping in.  When we knew we were moving to this place, he asked my stepdad if he would be able to build the trailer in the carport (since there is no garage).  After getting the ok, he proceeded to buy the materials and last month started work on the trailer.  He has worked on it probably 4 days total over the weekends.  Well, our neighbors decided to ‘turn us in’.  Apparently, the wife couldn’t take her nap on Saturdays because Andrew was making too much noise.  Whaa??  We just got an official notice posted on our door.

I just don’t understand.  This isn’t a retirement facility nor is it 55+ park.  People make noise.  If I let my daughter ride her bike in the carport, I guarantee the noise level would be MUCH louder.  When my mom lived here, I remember driving up on Sundays when she was watching football and could hear her loud mouth (sorry Mom, you know you’re loud… that’s where I get it from) yelling throughout the game, while the windows were open.  I think the entire county knew when her team was winning or losing.

Anyway, I’m venting.  This isn’t the first time people here have given us a hard time.  First we had too many boxes in the carport.  (Hello, we were MOVING IN that weekend!)  Then the carport was too messy. (Again, we had just moved in.  At the time the complaint came in, I looked outside and there was nothing out there.  And, did they not check out my other neighbor’s carport? They have so much crap in theirs, it isn’t even funny.)  Then we were driving too fast.

I’ve seen people blow through stop signs here.  I see people store crap in their carports.  The same neighbors who complain about us let their landscape grow into our area, and instead of bitching about it, hubby just trims it when he is doing ours.

I’ll tell you, I’ve lived in apartments for the last 14 years and I’ve never had anyone report me for anything. (Same goes for hubby)   I don’t need Big Brother Grandpa watching my every move and bitching about it just because I’m under 60. We just want a break, you know?

PS, no mobile home/trailer trash jokes please.  We lost our house this year and are blessed to have a place closer to our family & friends.

I caught her in my closet the other day and here is what I found…

Wedding Weekend

My childhood friend Lisa got married this weekend!  As much as I love weddings, I was happy to NOT be involved in this one.  This is her second marriage, and I was co-Maid of Honor at the first one.  This time, it was a smaller wedding, and she & hubby opted to have only one person stand up for each of them, so I dodged the bullet her sister had the honor this time.

 BFF!

Anyway, it was beautiful… outside at a hotel overlooking the beach.  Who knew it would be almost 100 degrees outside!  Both hubby and I are sunburnt!

I had a cousin of mine take Katie for most of the day (they went to the beach and the mall), and drop her off during the reception.  That way she didn’t have to sit through the ceremony/lunch, and just arrived for the dancing - her favorite part anyway!

Congrats Lisa & Matt!  Now hurry up and have some kids!

My favorite snack

Lately, I can’t get enough of this snack:

Peanut Butter Stuffed Celery with Raisins or ’Ants on a Log’.  YUM!! I make them for my daughter, then end up eating most of them myself.  What a tasty treat.

Google Maps is creepy

So, I was looking up an address on Google maps, and noticed there was a ’street view’.  Holy crap, they have pictures of the street and houses as if you are driving down the middle of the street.  I googled my dad’s address, and sure as sh*t, there is his house.  The garage door was open and you can see inside!  There are cars parked and you can see license plates!! This seems like a huge invasion of privacy to me.  What do you think?

What’s New

Well, the funeral is over.  It was a very nice service and I got to see many loved ones.  Back to normal life, I guess!  Here is my current to do list:

  1. Reschedule dental appointments.  Yuck.
  2. Get this house back into shape.  After first being sick, then spending time scanning photos and making boards for the funeral, I really need to catch up!
  3. Call my friend and wish her a happy birthday.  I almost forgot with all of the drama going on!
  4. Post some more Stampin’ Up! rubber stamp sets on Ebay.  I am really cutting down my collection.  It’s so overwhelming when you have too many supplies, and limited time to make something!  I already got rid of 50 sets last summer, and I have about 30 more that are ready to go.
  5. Start on the scrapbook for my friend’s wedding present.
  6. Call Subway and report their bathroom door.  We stopped by to take Katie to the bathroom last night, and when I opened the door it slammed on her head and she has a giant goose egg on her temple!
  7. Finish my book… I’ve been reading it forever!
  8. Actually use my Grocery Game list.  I signed up and right after my grandpa passed away, and I have yet to go through my coupons and print a list to shop with.
  9. Go to a new restaurant and use my buy 1 get 1 free meal… I just got my new Entertainment Guide and there are so many restaurants around here I didn’t know about!
  10. Scrub the cradle crap off baby’s head.  I’ve done this a few times with baby oil and a tooth brush, but it keeps coming back.

So there you go.  Nothing too exciting, but life goes on as usual.

Going through pictures

I spent yesterday going through photos to use at my grandpa’s funeral service tomorrow.  My mom and a few aunts came by my house, I made lunch, then we got down to business.  It was nice to be around them and listen to them all tell stories and laugh and cry.

That’s me holding my doll, sitting with Grandpa and my aunt and uncles.  The other one is when he met Willie Nelson.

Memories of Grandpa RC

My grandpa who has been very sick and hospitalized the last few months, finally passed away today.  I say ‘finally’ as he had bone marrow cancer, severe pneumonia and heart problems and has just been miserable.

Below is a story I wrote to him for his 80th birthday.  Tomorrow he would have been 82.

It seems like I spent more time growing up at Grandpa’s house than my own.  While I have both good and bad memories (being hung by the meat hook and learning to swim by being thrown into the pool – both by Grandpa), the good definitely outweighed the bad.

I loved going to my grandparent’s house.  The first memories were at Reedview.  There was always someone there and I always had fun.  Sometimes Grandpa would have the sheet strung up in the garage and he would video tape all of us singing and dancing (and sometimes even picking our noses).  We would go swimming in the pool, watch movies, or Grandpa would teach us how to gamble.  And why not? There was a mini-casino in the play room complete with roulette and craps tables, a slot machine and even a pool table. When I would spend the night, we’d always go out to breakfast at Bob’s Big Boy.

Holidays were wonderful - always a packed house.  At Thanksgiving,  there would be tables full of food, and people everywhere.  One year Grandpa decided to have a “Turkey of the Year” award. He knew everyone would vote for him, so he made the prize a hundred dollars.

Christmas Eve was a night to remember… with either Great Grandma R playing the piano or one of the kids using the player piano rolls.  Everyone would sing along.  We would go back Christmas morning to unwrap our presents.  They were always very generous.  One year grandpa had a tree decorated with a deck of cards!

My friends loved going to Grandpa RC’s house.  We’d have swim parties there and everyone loved RC.

Grandpa even built us a tree house with a racetrack around it.

When Grandpa and Grandma moved to MV, there was even more stuff for us to do.  By that time he had a Bingo Board, and he would let us invite our friends over to play.  We would take out the pink hippo around the lake.

It seemed like twice a month we had get-togethers… either for holidays or birthdays or weddings.

Vacations were the best.  The year I was old enough to go river rafting, Grandpa broke his leg going down the river, and where did he go to recoup? Yes, Reno.  Then we went to San Diego.  Then we went to Hawaii.  I remember being on a bus going to a luau, and Grandpa got the whole bus singing… “Oh, you can’t get to Heaven”.  The next year we went on a cruise from Florida to Nassau.  I remember being at Disneyworld and Grandpa rented a wheelchair for us to push him around in.

How lucky I was to have grandparents that threw Halloween parties for their grandkids.  When I was about 14 they told us we could each bring 4-5 friends.  They had the whole house decorated, complete with a graveyard in front.  There was a DJ and we danced all night.

I wonder if anyone else has a grandpa that eats cereal over ice cream for breakfast.

When I was 17, we were on Family Feud together – FOUR TIMES! I’m so glad I was included in that.  It was so fun.

Grandpa always told me I was his favorite… but don’t tell the other grandkids.  Well, one day the grandkids were talking amongst themselves and it seemed that Grandpa told ALL OF US that!  Hmph!  When I talked to him about that, he told me that “I just tell them that so it doesn’t hurt their feelings…. You’re my real favorite.”  I know he was telling me the truth.

Over the years my mom has told me stories about her grandparents.  I can’t wait to tell my children about my memories of growing up at Grandpa’s house.

Grandpa, thank you for giving me such wonderful childhood memories.  I love you!
