Well, it’s that time of the year again – Christmas is just around the bend. I know there are only so many stuffed animals and toys that my kid needs – and I’m sure I’m not the only parent that thinks so. I can’t tell you how many Christmas’ I’ve seen where the kids are so overwhelmed with gifts, that it becomes a race to open the presents.
This year, why not give a family an ‘experience’ for Christmas (or birthday)? Think passes to a local museum, zoo or aquarium? They are fairly inexpensive, and the family can go year round. Maybe dance or karate lessons? The possibilities are endless, and the best thing is that they are not collecting ‘stuff’.
This goes for adults too. How about a home cooked meal, baked goods or a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant? Gifts don’t have to be expensive – it’s the thought that counts. I, for one, would love tickets to the theater, but I’d be just as happy with a plate of home-baked cookies.
And let’s not forget the real reason we’re celebrating this holiday in the first place.
